It’s natural to feel curious about the counsellor you feel drawn to working with and you might find yourself wanting to know a little bit about me.............
Above everything else I’d like you to know your counselling sessions are focused on you, they are yours and about you, but I recognise how difficult it can be to reach out. Let alone talk to someone new; to all intents and purposes a stranger, about the most intimate parts of yourself and your life. Maybe even the parts that you haven’t yet talked about to anyone else.
Just the thought of talking to a counsellor can be highly anxiety provoking; I genuinely understand those feelings. There can be a lot of shame and guilt around the thoughts and feelings we have but also around seeking outside support. I understand the need to know a little about the person behind the professional who you are feeling drawn to working with.
Previous clients have told me I'm easy to get on with, kind and supportive
I care deeply about counselling. I feel incredibly privileged to work and walk alongside clients as they navigate life’s challenges. I care deeply because I have personally experienced the impact of good therapy within my own life.
Yes, I am a fully qualified psychotherapeutic counsellor, but I am also a woman in her early 50’s, a wife and a mum to grown up children. I have life experiences as well as professional training and experience. I know what it is like to experience childhood trauma and how our relationship with our past shifts and changes as we move through each decade of our lives. Life will throw up curve balls and challenges we never expected. Each phase of our life will see us experience something different, something new.
There's a chance it might not feel like it right now, but life isn’t all about challenges and trauma, there is hope.
