My Approach

Counsellors use various approaches when working with clients, and as a qualified psychotherapeutic Integrative Counsellor, I understand this can be confusing. What is an Integrative Counsellor? It means I use different theories from different types of therapy to tailor my approach specifically for you.

Meeting You Where You Are Through an Integrative Approach

Different Ways of Understanding Ourselves

To be specific, in my practice as an integrative counsellor I draw from Person-Centered Theory, Psychodynamic Theory, Transactional Analysis and some elements of CBT. I am also drawn to the Transpersonal aspects of therapy which seeks to facilitate personal growth and deeper meaning as a person, honouring all aspects of the human experience.

As an Integrative Counsellor, I don't believe there is a one-size-fits-all approach to therapy. Different people, experiences and challenges often call for different ways of understanding and working with them.  Drawing from a range of theories helps me to meet you where you are and tailor our work to what feels most helpful and meaningful for you.

What does this mean for you?

We are all uniquely different as are our experiences in life. As your counsellor I will respectfully and thoughtfully tailor our sessions to meet your unique needs. My role isn't to tell you what to do; instead we can work together to explore, understand or perhaps process your experiences, your past pain, challenges, changes, thoughts, emotions or behaviours.

Understanding Ourselves

Sometimes we may begin to notice patterns or threads that run through your experiences. Together, we can become curious about these patterns, where they may have come from and whether they continue to serve you in the way they once did.

Often there are understandable reasons why we develop particular ways of coping, relating to others or responding to life's challenges.

A Safe Space to Explore

I offer a respectful, safe and calm environment where you can explore whatever you choose, at your own pace. Ultimately you are in control of what you choose to share with me and talk about.

I understand that beginning counselling can feel daunting. For many people, it may be the first time they have spoken openly about aspects of their life, relationships or experiences. My aim is to provide a space where you feel able to bring whatever feels important to you, without fear of judgement or pressure.

A Safe and Trusting Relationship

As a counsellor, my practice is respectful and without judgement. I am dedicated to providing you with a warm, compassionate and empathic therapeutic relationship; one where you feel both understood and supported.

Through my experience as a counsellor, I have found that meaningful therapeutic work often takes place within a safe and trusting relationship, one where you feel able to explore your experiences openly and honestly.

Understanding and Change

Throughout my work, I've found meaningful change often begins with understanding.  As our awareness of ourselves, our experiences and our patterns of relating grows, new possibilities and choices can begin to emerge.   Counselling can offer a space where this can happen at a pace that feels right for you.  If you feel I might be the right counsellor for you, I'd be very happy to hear from you.
